Drought in Northern China Delays Planting of Corn, May Reduce Production

(Bloomberg) -- Corn output in China's northeastern provinces, the country's main growing region for the commodity, may be cut by a drought that has delayed some planting and affected crops already sown.

Dry weather since late April in Liaoning has affected more than 1 million hectares (2.5 million acres) of crop, the Liaoning Meteorological Bureau said on its Web site today. The conditions have also damaged corn crops in Jilin, said analysts including Zheng Bin at Changchun Grains Exchange Co.
