Saudi Shares Fall for a Fifth Trading Session; Kuwait Gains: Arab Stocks

(Bloomberg) -- Saudi Arabia's benchmark stock index fell for a fifth consecutive trading session. Shares in Kuwait advanced.

Saudi Arabia's Tadawul All Share Index slipped 0.7 percent to 7732.51 at 11:55 a.m. in Riyadh as 50 stocks fell, 24 gained and 14 were unchanged. The index has lost 2.6 percent this year after plunging 53 percent last year.

IMF changes tune on dire global imbalance threat

(Reuters) - A year after warning that cash-rich countries like China and the oil exporters could dump dollars and destabilize the global economy, the International Monetary Fund has a much happier message -- "progress."

IMF economists were patting themselves on the back for raising the alarm last April and encouraging big lending countries and borrowers, such as the United States, to work together to address concerns about global imbalances.

RBS-led consortium eyes break-up bid for ABN

(Reuters) - A consortium of Royal Bank of Scotland Plc, Belgian-Dutch group Fortis and Spain's Santander invited Dutch bank ABN AMRO to start takeover talks, the banks said on Friday, challenging current suitor Barclays.

ABN, facing investor calls to consider a sale or break-up, has been in exclusive talks with Britain's Barclays Plc since last month to strike the biggest-ever bank takeover, but a 30-day exclusivity period expires next week.
