(Reuters) - But Treasury debt prices fell after the National Association of Purchasing Managers-Chicago business barometer for March posted its highest reading since early 2005, countering earlier signs of a regional slump.
A separate report showing U.S. consumer spending and prices rose in February even as defaults in the risky subprime mortgage sector increased and home sales slipped also weighed on bonds and boosted U.S. share prices.
